Special Edition is a premier Dallas band that takes great pride in being able to offer a great variety of musical styles–performed by seasoned musicians–to its clients and listeners. Specializing in everything from Dance/Pop (Top 40), R&B, Rock and Jazz to Country, Funk and Hip-hop, The Special Edition Band is available for weddings, private parties corporate events and club dates and will customize an array of musical preferences for each client or venue. The group is primarily available in nine-piece or ten-piece configurations, featuring amazing vocalists, full rhythm section, and a spectacular horn-section.

JOHN ADAMS: Bass/Band Leader
John AdamsAs an accomplished acoustic and electric bassist, John Adams is one of the Southwest’s most versatile and in-demand musicians. Adams holds Bachelor and Master of Music degrees from the University of North Texas, where for ten years he was the jazz bass instructor. He is also active as producer, arranger, composer, music contractor, and workshop clinician.

Through his “sessionbasstracks.com” website, John provides bass parts for recording clients ranging across the US, as well as internationally in UK, Australia, Singapore, Turkey, Greece and others. He has backed and/or recorded for a wide array of artists from vocalists Mel Torme, Rosemary Clooney, Phil Driscoll, and Wayne Watson, to jazz artists such as Woody Herman, Randy Brecker, Marvin Stamm, Joe McBride, Bobby Lyle, Carl Fontana, Chet Baker, Clark Terry, Dave Liebman, and others. His broad musical background has also included symphonic and pit/show work.
Through his independent Congruent Music label, Adams has released eight highly acclaimed and widely varied CD projects, including the stunning “John and Mark’s Excellent Rock Adventure,” (2012), and which includes a unique instructional/play-along component.

Adams’ jazz CD projects have received radio airplay on over 160 stations nationwide, and have been prominently featured on various online radio formats. His debut “Jump Shot” CD (’96) features New York and regional artists, and showcases John’s formidable writing skills. “Fly By Night” (’99) features an exceptional acoustic-jazz quartet in an intimate club setting, and the tasteful and sultry, “With You In Mind” CD (’01) showcases studio/jazz musicians from Dallas, Austin, and L.A. The “Live!” CD (’04) captures the intensity and variety of the group in concert performances. The “Thumbs Up,” CD (’09) is a state-of-the-art studio production with a fresh, contemporary sound, exciting originals and stunning arrangements of some surprising classics. The “Trios,” (’06) and the brand new sequel “Trios Two” (2013) projects both feature five different trio instrumentations/combinations, each with a compelling rapport.

D-MAC: Vocals/Percussion
D-MACA professional singer and former MCA recording artist with MAC BAND, D-MAC lends his sultry, soulful vocals and powerful percussion across many genres of music. D-MAC appears all over the Dallas/Ft. Worth region with popular bands (notable Special Edition and the FM Band) in local hotspots as well as private parties and weddings.

One of the joys in his life is singing with his brothers in “The McCampbell Brothers” gospel band. D-MAC has been an influential musical presence serving on worship teams at Our Savior Lutheran, Fellowship Bible, and Spring Creek Community Church (Dallas). He currently is on staff and leads worship at “The Bridge,” the contemporary service at Stonebridge United Methodist Church in McKinney, Texas. D-MAC has extensive experience as a recording session singer, as well as in composing and arranging music for radio and television jingles.

His impact on the surrounding community even extends to teaching basketball and leadership skills to children through his “D-MAC’s Hoops Camps.” When not performing, D-MAC enjoys watching Michigan football and playing basketball in various leagues.

Originally from Michigan, music has been a part of Autumn Daly’s life from early childhood. Throughout her school years, Autumn appeared in countless plays, showcases, talent shows, winning regional and state awards for forensics and vocal music. In college, Autumn majored in Musical Theater with a concentration in Vocal Music, where she continued including lead roles in shows such as “Zooman and the Sign”, “West Side Story” and “Dreamgirls,” in which she appeared with actress Jennifer Holliday.

Autumn has extensive studio experience, including adding her vocals to projects with talent such as Mario Winans, Vickie Winans, Kevon Edmonds, Tracy (The D.O.C.) Curry, Michael Narada Walden, Jamie Foxx, and others. Live performance has continued to be Autumn’s passion and became her career focus when she began performing in the DFW’s active music scene in 2000, with extended time in several of the top cover bands in the area, such as Professor D, Cuvee and InVersion, to name a few. Ms. Daly joined The Special Edition Band in Sept of 2015.

In 2001, Autumn expanded her persona to a nationwide audience, starring in a national television show on CBS. In 2003, Autumn was voted “#1 Unsigned Artist” by Billboard Magazine and was featured in three subsequent issues. Also an accomplished, trained dancer, Autumn spends considerable time teaching voice and dance to younger members of the DFW community, while enjoying her role as Director of Business and Operations for North Texas Performing Arts. Tiffany HalesMs. Hales brings together powerful vocals and exuberant stage presentation. Originally from Mesquite, TX, she began with church/gospel music performing at age 11, developing from there into worship music leading by age 15. She holds a Bachelor of Education degree, and while teaching in that field has also nearly completed a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction.

Tiffany Hales performed professionally for several years with several party/variety bands in the DFW-area, including “Domino Effect,” prior to joining Special Edition in late 2013. In tandem with vocalist Autumn Daly, Tiffany brings to The Special Edition Band an exciting combination of vocals and dance moves that is captivating and contagious.

Ryan Brown’s drum work exhibits amazing stylistic versatility, musical knowledge and experience. To each performance he provides rock-steady grooves, fiery technique, creativity, sensitivity, and passion. He performs regularly in many different genres and bands, from five-star hotels, to studios, to festival stages, to concert halls to church environments.

Ryan attended the University of North Texas for five years as a Jazz Studies major, and has studied with legendary performers/teachers such as Steve Smith, Ed Soph, Dave Weckl, Matt Chamberlain, Ignacio Berroa, Adam Nussbaum, and Dan Haerle. Ryan Brown’s diverse list of performances includes artists such as Andy Timmons, Nora Jones, Mario Cruz, and Wayne Delano.

Ben BohorquezBen Bohorquez was born in El Paso, TX and spent his formative years in Indianapolis, IN as well as La Paz, Bolivia and Houston, TX. His mother taught him piano lessons at the early age of 5, but Ben started taking music seriously when he chose to play the saxophone in 6th grade. Through the band programs, private instruction with local legend Martin Langford, and his father’s church where he became a worship leader at age 12, Ben excelled in music and was exposed to different styles of music.

After graduating from the prestigious High School for the Performing and Visual Arts (HSPVA), Ben moved to Denton, TX to pursue a Jazz Studies degree from the University of North Texas; his private instruction mentors were Jim Riggs and Brad Leali. He recorded with the UNT Jazz Singers I and the 2 O’Clock Lab Band. Ben completed his degree in 2009 and now resides in Dallas, TX where he is a busy freelance musician. He performs regularly with original projects that include The Funky Knuckles, Tatiana ‘LadyMay’ Mayfield, Catie Waters, RSVP, and The Special Edition Band. He has also performed with artists such as Snarky Puppy, Bernard Wright, Foley, Foe Destroyer, and the Dallas Theatre Center.

Ben is also actively and passionately involved as music instructor and studio musician. His combination of professionalism, technical mastery, creativity, fiery solos, and showmanship make him an asset to every ensemble and setting.

Matt JohnsonBorn and raised in Texas, Matthew Johnson’s earliest formative musical experiences lead to studies at the prestigious University of North Texas School of Music. Shortly after college, Matthew moved to Los Angeles where he formed his critically acclaimed, progressive rock power trio Doctor M. During his time in L.A. Matthew Johnson collaborated, recorded and performed with the rock band Great White, and even co-wrote several of the band’s hit songs. Eventually Matthew accepted an invitation to assume lead guitar position with Great White for extensive tours of both the U.S. and Europe. When not on tour Mr. Johnson also held a steady “house gig” in Manhattan Beach, which put him in weekly contact jamming and recording with some of the world’s most renowned rock/pop and studio musicians.

In 2007 Matthew returned to Texas, accepting a tour offer from Austin artist Patrice Pike of Sister Seven (on Arista Records). Patrice had just appeared in the 2006 CBS television show Rock Star: Supernova. Following a four year stint with Patrice Pike, Mr. Johnson reconnected with Great White, and spent most of 2012 and 2013 playing sold out shows all over the US and Canada.

Since returning to the Dallas area, Matthew Johnson has also been actively involved with its local/regional music scene with artists and bands such as Redbone, The Molly Maguires, May Lee Thomas, Filet of Soul, Texas Flood, and more, and has been a member of The Special Edition Band since 2014. He is also continually active as studio musician and producer for album projects, film/media and commercials and jingles.

DEAN COLUMBARO: Keyboards/Vocals
Dean ColumnarOriginally from Cleveland, Ohio, Dean Columbaro brings a vast musical background and experience to every endeavor, and is the newest addition to The Special Edition Band. Dean has performed for the past two decades in several of the DFW-area’s top bands including Emerald City, Good Question, Mars Hill Band and Inside Out.

He has also performed frequently as a solo jazz pianist for special events and weddings. Mr. Columbaro’s broad skill-set allows Special Edition to maintain its high level of musical integrity in every genre of popular music. His on-going attention to details regarding synthesizer and keyboard sounds make him an invaluable asset to every ensemble he performs with.

DON BOZMAN: Trombone
Don BozmanDon Bozman holds music degrees from Midwestern State University and from Michigan State University. During his college years he was a member of both the Wichita Falls Symphony Orchestra and the Lansing Symphony Orchestra. Following his studies, Don toured with the American Wind Symphony Orchestra, as well as national tours of “The 1940’s Radio Hour,” “The Student Prince,” and “The Desert Song,” and other productions.

Once settled in the Dallas-area, Mr. Bozman joined and eventually was leader of “Dallas Brass & Electric,” which for 20 years was one of the region’s most heralded party/cover bands. Mr. Bozman has also held leadership posts in church music, and has been playing trombone and arranging for the Daystar Television Network since 2004. In addition to playing in Special Edition, Don Bozman performs with the Dallas Jazz Orchestra and numerous other units. His free-lance work has included performances with legendary artists such as Aretha Franklin, The Temptations, Wayne Newton, Pearl Bailey, Louis Belson, Bob Hope, B.J. Thomas, and many others.

Larry SpencerLarry Spencer plays a rich tapestry of styles: classical, pop, rock, latin and jazz. Larry attended Capital University Conservatory of Music in Columbus, Ohio and the University of North Texas, where he became a member of the famed 1:00 Lab Band. Following his time at North Texas, Larry did extensive touring work with the Buddy Rich Big Band, Woody Herman’s Thundering Herd, and Frank Sinatra. As a studio/show musician, Mr. Spencer has been fortunate to have backed a long list of international stars including, Henry Mancini, Nelson Riddle, Bob Hope, Andy Williams, Ella Fitzgerald, Mel Tormé, Tony Bennett, Rosemary Clooney, Rita Moreno, The Dixie Chicks, Cab Calloway, Billy Eckstein, Joe Williams, Lou Rawls, Reba McIntyre, Barry Manilow, Rita Moreno, Toni Tenille, Marvin Hamlisch, Natalie Cole, and Ray Charles, and has also been in the pit orchestras for dozens of touring Broadway shows.

Larry Spencer has been recorded on over 80 CDs, and dozens of movie soundtracks, and commercials for radio and TV. Along with his fellow Special Edition horn section members, he currently plays for a morning TV show on the Daystar Television Network. As a jazz soloist/leader, Larry Spencer has released four CD projects (on Armored Records).
